da realsbet: For two weeks running it’s been reported that Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino has entered the dressing room at halftime and altered manager Steve Evans’ tactics. This is during a time where the Italian’s suspension from running the club has been frozen while the Football League decide on an appropriate date for his appeal to be heard.
da gbg bet: A cynic – or wise man – would suggest Cellino only appealed the initial ban (his second since being in England) to buy himself some time. It was a cut and dry case that found him guilty of tax evasion back home in Italy. This shouldn’t be confused with a recent Italian appeal hearing which cleared his name. That related to a separate case surrounding player transfers when he was at Cagliari. It is the failure to pay VAT on an imported Land Rover that has him bang to rights.
There can be little grounds for him to lodge a serious appeal. The Football League have no reason to doubt the Italian court’s findings and to overturn the decision now would create an awkward political backlash. Cellino must know this.
If his intentions to stick around for a while were to help the team, he may as well start serving the suspension now. For all his meddling and interference, Leeds find themselves 18th in the Championship. The idea of them putting a run together and joining the race for the play-off places seems as far-fetched as Massimo being an honest man.
The fans are the ones that will ultimately suffer. They will face a directionless period while the owner awaits his suspension, placing them in limbo. Before then he is doing all he can to undermine the current boss. Steve Evans – who was never a popular choice, but most fans were happy to give a fair crack of the whip to him – repeatedly stated he would walk if the owner interfered with team selection.
In the space of a fortnight he’s had two chances to keep that promise, but instead has revealed himself to be another ‘yes man’ that the Italian likes to keep around. He’s a puppet without a clue and lacks any hope of becoming a success at Elland Road. There’s more chance of Evans getting axed before the Football League set the all-important appeal date.
The governing body should be as ashamed as Cellino for their unwarranted delay. But neither party appears to be aware of the emotion and carry on regardless.
The Elland Road faithful deserve an intervention immediately. Not only would it remove the toxic Cellino from daily running of the club, it could serve as the much-needed catalyst that sees him finally cave in and accept a buy out from the supporters’ group, Leeds Fans United.
As long as the owner is allowed to play with his puppet and all his toys, there’s no chance he’ll go home in a sulk. The Football League hold the key to breaking Massimo Cellino’s stronghold on a club that deserves so much more.
They need to act fast to save Leeds further embarrassment.
