da dobrowin: The summer ahead is arguably one of the most important periods in Tottenham’s history.
da lvbet: After securing another year in the Champions League and, more importantly reaching the final last season, Tottenham sent a clear message to the rest of Europe. They’re here to stay and this could be the beginning of something special rather than the end of a team’s cycle.
Indeed, Mauricio Pochettino has talked of a new plan and their direction certainly appears to have changed considering early links with the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele.
Let’s start first with Lo Celso. The Argentinian was the subject of a £53m bid earlier in the window, according to BBC Sport. While this has yet to progress, Sky Sports did report that the midfielder was keen to work under Pochettino and this is something Tottenham now have at their disposal which has been missing in previous years – a manager players far and wide want to play for.
Pochettino has had an undeniable effect on so many youngsters breaking through. Just look at the emergence of Harry Winks or the progression shown by Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Christian Eriksen. Frankly, he is seemingly capable of getting every ounce out of his squad and players individually, a clearly attractive quality.
Now, onto Tanguy Ndombele. Obviously, this is a 22-year-old highly coveted French midfielder reportedly valued by parent club Lyon at £66.6m who recently told Telefoot that he’d be interested in moving to a club as big as Spurs. Considering the fact he’s been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Juventus, that’s a pretty big statement.
Put simply, he’s not your average Tottenham target.
It shows the change in direction, just a matter of weeks since their Champions League final defeat. Additionally, it shows the change in perception. After all, ESPN reported in January that PSG outcast Adrien Rabiot would reject any move from Tottenham as he believed they were below his level. How times change.
Reaching the final means that Tottenham can no longer be viewed as below anyone. Yes, they have lesser finances to splash and perhaps the history isn’t there but the world can now see the potential of this club in its current state.
Tottenham are a young team, going in the right direction, spearheaded by one of the best young managers in all of football. It’s no surprise players of this calibre are interested.
Tottenham fans, how much do you believe the perception of the club has now changed? Are players like Ndombele now realistic signings? Comment below.
