da prosport bet: Tonight’s EFL Cup quarter final between Newcastle and Hull at the KC Stadium presents Newcastle with the chance to reach the semi final of the competition for the first time in 20 years.
da blaze casino: Even though their team is flying high in the Championship and focused on a return to the top flight at the first time of asking, the Magpies’ fans dream of silverware.
It doesn’t get tougher than playing away to a Premier League side but there’s plenty of talent still at Newcastle and if they play to the best of their ability will be fancied by many to come away with a win on the night.
History is against the Magpies, who have lost their last 5 quarter finals in the competition. However they do have a good record against Hull, unbeaten in their last three, winning two of those games away to the Tigers.
It’s all set to be a very intriguing night of action and we’re eager to see if Newcastle can prove they’re still of Premier League quality.
Here are three reasons why Newcastle fans should be confident of victory tonight:
Difference in team form
The difference in form between the two sides could not be more stark. Newcastle are flying high in the league and, in contrast, Hull are in the Premier League relegation zone.
Across the last ten league matches Hull City have only won one game. It’s true they’ve found shelter in the League Cup with victories, but overall it’s the pattern of a struggling team.
They’ve also been on the end of some heavy defeats with 4-1, 5-1 and 6-1 losses to Arsenal, Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively.
Newcastle have eight wins in their last 10 league games, losing only one of them. That did come at the weekend, admittedly, but it’s this difference in team form that should give Magpies fans most hope of all in achieving a result.
Hull’s lack of goals
The main reason for Hull’s shocking league form has been their lack of goals. Across the season, no other team in the Premier League has scored less than they have, managing only 11.
Their top scorer this season has been Robert Snodgrass, with five, but the only time he’s featured in their League Cup run was coming off the bench in a win against Exeter City.
If Mike Phelan opts to keep him fresh for the Premier League, then who are they going rely upon to score against a talented Newcastle defence and a goalkeeper, Karl Darlow, in excellent form?
Dwight Gayle
Notorious for rotating his team, there’s no guarantee Dwight Gayle starts but if Rafael Benitez chooses to unleash him, then the Tigers could be in for a long night.
The striker has scored 13 goals in 13 league appearances this season. You’ll note that’s more than the entire Hull City side put together.
True, he’s doing it in a lesser league, but form breeds confidence and confidence unlocks ability. Ability is something Gayle has plenty of.
Against a side that has conceded 28 league goals this season he could prove to be the knockout star that Newcastle need to head through to the semi final.
