da apostaganha: Sunderland fans had good news to celebrate this week as Sky Sports’ David Jones joined the club as a non-executive director, and he hasn’t taken long to share what he plans to do in his new role.
What did he say?
da mrbet: Jones will take on a part-time role at the club as he focuses on his job as a presenter on Sky Sports, while also stating that he will focus on the footballing side of things.
That is probably a positive since the Black Cats have gone backwards on the pitch in recent weeks, with the appointment of Phil Parkinson so far proving to be a mistake.
He also suggested that from the outside looking in Sunderland doesn’t appear to be a club with a good environment, and considering they have been in steady decline for much of the decade he is correct in his thinking.
Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, Jones said:
“We’ve spoken about structures around the first team, the academy, recruitment, and I think they probably all need addressing.
“It’s something we did at Oxford and I think I’m in a good position to help in that sense.
“We desperately need to create an environment where players, managers and coaches can be successful. It’s not been that way for such a long time, I’ve sat on the outside like any other fan and thought, something needs to be addressed here.”

Helping Parkinson
The appointment of Jones seems a sensible move considering he has experience of the role having spent time at Oxford United advising as a non-executive director.
During his time in that role he helped the U’s to promotion to League One as well as consecutive EFL Trophy finals, and therefore he may be able to produce similar success with the Black Cats.
Whose Line Is It Anyway: Michael Owen, Garth Crooks or Mark Lawrenson?
What’s more, he is a fan of the club, and that could be crucial. He understands what fans will be feeling and the sense of aimlessness that has surrounded the club for years, and if he can bring back a feel-good factor then that will be a huge step in the right direction.
Targeting recruitment should be his priority if Sunderland are to rescue their season. Parkinson needs support in terms of additions if he is to mould the squad in his image and bring in players with a positive mindset. With January around the corner, Jones’ arrival is well-timed.
That in turn will help him solve the structural issues surrounding the first-team and hopefully the environment needed for success – two other priorities Jones has identified, as well as helping the youth team.
So far the signs are positive that Sunderland have brought in an individual who will put the right guidance in place, rather than him just being a name that fans can associate with due to his other role in football.
In other Sunderland news, there is further reason to be positive as Lynden Gooch has made a return from injury which could provide a big boost to the squad.
