da casino: Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen remains of interest to Manchester United prior to the January transfer window, per 90Min.
What’s the word?
Eriksen said in the summer that he was open to a new challenge but no move materialised.
His contract expires at the end of the season, however, and Spurs are aware that they run the risk of losing him for nothing if he does not depart in January.
United, per the aforementioned report, hold a longstanding interest in the Denmark international, though they would need him to make it clear he is keen on a move to Old Trafford if they were to make an offer.
Mourinho’s produced some incredible footballing stars – how much do you know about them?
Encourage a bid
Spurs would do well to encourage a bid here.
They can’t really afford to lose Eriksen for nothing and United have a deep reserve of cash that they could throw at the north London club.
Of course, he can sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in the winter window but it makes more sense for Spurs to encourage a domestic club to bid.
After all, Eriksen isn’t getting into Jose Mourinho’s team at the moment, with Dele Alli in exceptional form in the No.10 role – scoring three goals in the Portuguese’s first four league games in charge – and any money gained can then be reinvested into the squad.
It is a no-brainer and, while it would be strengthening a rival, the positives far outweigh the negatives here.
Meanwhile, Spurs’ pursuit of one former PL star makes no sense.
