da heads bet: Aside from the recent defeat at Aston Villa, Newcastle are beginning to find a bit of form and play in a way which not only makes them hard to beat, but dangerous at the opposite end of the pitch too.
da betcris: Steve Bruce spoke after the West Ham match about wanting the same kind of support Rafa Benitez received, and though that could take time, he is on the right path to making that a reality.
Jamie Redknapp shared a similar viewpoint after the Magpies picked up a point against Manchester City, suggesting that Bruce deserves more credit than he has got so far. He pointed to the fact Newcastle haven’t lost a home game since the opening day, with Bruce picking up four more points than Benitez did at the same stage last season.
Added to that, Bruce seems to have reinvigorated Jonjo Shelvey – who has three league goals already – and is allowing Allan Saint-Maximin to sparkle in attack – the Frenchman producing seven successful dribbles in each of his last two Premier League games.
There are some supporters who share the sentiment that Bruce has done well, with one adding that he deserves greater backing from fans for what he has done so far.
Despite their support, it would seem that the majority are against him, which is a harsh standpoint to take given he took over in difficult circumstances with a lot of pressure to succeed.
Fans were opposed to his appointment from the start but despite a lack of quality in some areas of the squad he has managed to find a successful system and is picking up points as a result.
Even against Aston Villa his side only conceded due to the classy moments from set-pieces, and the organisation he has brought to the backline is impressive.
As a result, those opting to continue criticising Bruce are a bit out of order, though some point to his relationship with Mike Ashley as an aspect of his tenure that is unforgivable.
