Indeed, Oliver has one of the lowest fouls per-game stats in the League, and also one of the lowest yellow cards per-game stats. Letting the game flow is in his nature, and with two teams with brilliant ball-winners such as Victor Wanyama and Idrissa Gueye on display, as well as some world-class attacking talent, we could be in for a cracker of a game.
But with his stats suggesting he’s a referee who likes to keep the game open, the stats also suggest that home teams win the majority of the games he takes charge of, with games ending in victory for the home side 63.6% of the time.
Perhaps Everton will need to rein in their exuberance this weekend. Especially as Oliver gives one penalty ever two games, on average. One of the highest stats in the league. Both teams will have to be careful, but with Christian Eriksen’s ability over the dead ball, it’s the away team Everton who are likely to suffer.
