da betway: Just as Leeds United are performing well in the Championship, they get hit with the news that owner Massimo Cellino has been banned from football for 18 months.
da fazobetai: The Football Association announced the news on Thursday, claiming that the Italian will not be able to carry out any duties relating to the club from February 1 of next year.
The punishment comes following a 12-month investigation into allegations that an illegal payment was made during the £10.75m transfer of Ross McCormack to Fulham in July 2014.
After news that the FA could punish Cellino was reported in the media, the Leeds owner released a statement on the club’s official website saying:
“I am surprised to read the news regarding the FA’s intentions to ban and fine me, as well as fine the club. I am not guilty and I will take the right steps to defend myself through the tribunal.”
As well as being banned, Cellino has been given a fine of £250,000, while the club itself has also been hit with a matching fine.
On the pitch, the Whites are impressing having won five of their least league fixtures – the only blip on the record was a 2-0 loss to table-toppers Newcastle United.
The club currently sit in the playoff places, and fans will be hoping that the latest development in the saga involving their controversial owner will not distract Garry Monk and his players.
There are also rumblings that a takeover could be on the cards, with The Mirror recently reporting Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani is in talks to purchase a 50% stake in the Championship outfit.
After news of Cellino’s ban was announced, fans have been urging the sale to go ahead, while others have been left angered by their owner’s conduct.
