da esport bet: As reported by Portuguese outlet Record, Arsenal are preparing a bid for Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho this summer.
What’s the story?
da fazobetai: It’s clear that Arsenal mean business in the transfer window this year after Arsene Wenger pledged his future to the club at the end of last season. He’s looking for players that can turn the Gunners into title contenders once again and he may have found one such man in Portugal.
Record report that the Gunners are preparing a £27m bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho. The outlet say that he nearly became an Arsenal player in 2015/16 but that the Portuguese club’s asking price was too high for them to bite.
However, Carvalho’s situation has changed with the player eager for a move away from Sporting and the club are now prepared to do business, according to the report.
Who is he?
Carvalho may not be a household name to British football fans but he’s regular fixture for both Sporting Lisbon and the Portugal national team.
Making over 150 appearances for Sporting since 2013, he’s a player with fantastic experience of top-flight football and has gained plaudits for his defensive capabilities in the middle of the park, also possessing the ability to bring the ball into the final third with the ball at his feet. He was most recently seen in action for Portugal finishing third in the Confederations Cup.
That hybrid style could work perfectly for Arsenal as Wenger looks to bring a better balance to an Arsenal midfield that could be accused of being rather one note in recent seasons.
