Football London’s Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has said in a Q&A that the club could make a move to sign a defensive midfielder and a playmaker before Friday’s transfer deadline, as long as it is the right opportunity.
What’s the word, then?
Well, Gold undertook a Q&A with Spurs fans on Tuesday afternoon, and was asked by one individual (replied to at 17:17pm) whether the north London outfit are looking for a Christian Eriksen replacement following his exit to Inter Milan.
The journalist certainly provided an intriguing answer and as well as saying that their priority is to bring in a new striker, he also said that Tottenham are looking for similar opportunities for a defensive midfielder and a playmaker having taken advantage of the chance to sign Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven.
Gold added that if a good opportunity doesn’t arise, then Spurs would wait until the summer rather than gambling on a player who isn’t available for the right price.
How many signings will they get?
A striker seems a certainty and they simply can’t afford to not bring one in given Harry Kane reportedly won’t even be back in training until April, meaning it should be at least one new face through the door.
The other two positions are certainly more unclear though, as there hasn’t been a great deal of rumours surrounding players who featurein either role this month.

Obviously things can develop and move quickly at this point of the transfer window, but then again names are usually out there in the media, too.
That simply hasn’t been the case yet, and you would think that it would be a real rush against time for chairman Daniel Levy to bring in either a defensive midfielder or a playmaker in a deal that is right for Tottenham before Friday’s 11pm deadline.
It would be silly to rule it out completely, however, given what has occurred in previous windows.
