da brwin: Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has sang the praises of James Milner, stating that the former Manchester City man has filled the void left by club legend Steven Gerrard.
da esoccer bet: With the Kop hero leaving Anfield to start a new challenge in the United States, the Merseyside club moved quickly to sign Milner on a free transfer over the summer.
The England international has slotted into the heart of the Reds’ team alongside skipper Jordan Henderson and has even been made vice-captain.
Rodgers has stated that he feels the experienced Milner has been an excellent addition to his squad, both on and off the pitch.
“James Milner has been absolutely exceptional,” The Mirror quote the Northern Irishman as saying.
“You know he’s a good player, but you don’t realise how good until he comes into your club.
“He’s a proper man, in terms of how tough he is, but he’s also an outstanding footballer and he’s added massively to this squad in terms of mentality. He’s a winner and his work with the players has been outstanding.
“If you look at what we have now, we have a team — a team that can cope with whatever the game can throw at them.
“We can play football and the football will get better, but I’d like to think that all of my teams will have a certain element of steel and that’s important because there are different ways to win a game.
“In the games we’ve had, there have been different questions asked, mentally, physically and tactically, and we’ve answered them.
“But for sure this team will not lose out for fight and steel and commitment, there’s no doubt about that.”
Liverpool host West Ham today at Anfield and will hope to keep their unbeaten record intact.
Rodgers’ charges have started the new campaign with victories over Stoke and Bournemouth, with a 0-0 draw against Arsenal on Monday night ensuring that the Reds are yet to concede this term.
