da bet vitoria: Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs suffered heartbreak towards the end of last season as their title bid was brutally killed off by their arch-nemeses, Chelsea.
da doce: The final day humiliation at the already-relegated Newcastle topped-off a fairly emphatic fall from grace for Spurs towards the end of the last campaign. Although sometimes overplayed, Spurs must look to fight against this monumental momentum swing as we head towards one of the most-competitive Premier League campaigns to date.
Spurs fans, and probably Daniel Levy, will be in desperate hope that it can be another title-challenging season for the north London club. Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United have already invested heavily this summer and, as the Premier League grows in strength, Tottenham must attempt to replicate this ludicrous modern spending… with some ludicrous modern spending of their own!
Is the title on the cards for Spurs? Well, if there are those dreams are to become reality, they must sign these SIX…
Yevhen Konoplyanka
Konoplyanka’s poor first season with Sevilla should not put off any potential suitors.
His dazzling performances with Ukraine over the past few seasons saw plenty of Premier League interest and his ability to produce the spectacular may see Spurs table a bid for the Sevilla star.
Carlos Bacca
As AC Milan continue to rebuild as a club, Bacca must be considering how he can move to a club with genuine trophy-winning potential before he falls away from his peak.
A late bloomer, the Colombian is a forward of great ability who can challenge defenders on the run or compete aerially, and he would give Spurs the option to play a natural centre-forward alongside Harry Kane.
Could Bacca’s signing allow Spurs to keep Kane fresh for a title charge?
Mateo Kovacic
At the time, Kovacic’s move to Real Madrid seemed foolish, at best.
A team with such wonderful midfield options, Madrid were always unlikely to pick a player of Kovacic’s calibre, unless he managed the unthinkable and dislodged Toni Kroos or Luka Modric.
Kovacic’s still has room for improvement and, at 22, he could yet develop into a truly world class player.
Jason Denayer
As Pep Guardiola continues to target defenders, it is becoming increasingly hard to see where Jason Denayer fits in ahead of the new season.
The gifted defender was deputy to Alderweireld and Vertonghen at this summer’s Euros and could be a great addition to Spurs’ already large cohort of Belgians.
Mauro Icardi
Icardi is a player who is notoriously tricky to manage, but, despite this, has often produced the goods for Inter Milan throughout his career so far.
A reliable goal-scorer and versatile forward, Icardi can work just as well with his back to goal as when he is asked to stretch the defence.
Mohamed Salah
Despite a rather limp few months with Chelsea, Mohamed Salah is a player that could provide Mauricio Pochettino with lots of options.
His destructive pace, paired with improved finishing, makes him the goal threat that Spurs are lacking. Lamela and Eriksen’s contributions in those wide areas are valued, but Salah would at least be a wonderful player to bring off the bench. If nothing else, he’s a very different option.
