da brdice: Picking which players are going to hit a good run of form us one of the most crucial, yet difficult, skills Fantasy Premier League players need to master
da winzada777: It’s all very well packing your team with players who consistently score you high FPL points but there’s also a good chance everyone else has them as well, which means you’re not going to make much ground in your league, nor are you going to extend your lead at the top of your mini-league if you’re lucky enough to be up there.
So sometimes it’s worth identifying players who are normally consistent points scorers but, for whatever reason, aren’t performing as well as initially expected. If a player is good enough then he’ll bounce back from a quiet spell and put in a string of top performances and start racking up their FPL points returns.
So, with this in mind, we’ve picked out three players who have been relatively quiet by their own standards this season but are the type who could turn on the style at any moment to give your FPL team a much needed boost.
First up is Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen, who hasn’t exactly set the world alight for Mauricio Pochettino’s men so far this season. He has just three assists to his name after 12 league appearances, collecting just two bonus points along the way.
Last term the Denmark international contributed six goals and 16 assists to Spurs’ title challenge, so he’s falling way short of what we’re used to seeing him do. However, with a run of relatively winnable fixtures to come between now and the new year, Eriksen is well placed to start racking up big FPL points.
Then we have Dimitri Payet, who is yet to produce the wizardry we all witnessed with the Hammers last season.
Some would say his £9.2m price-tag is reflective of his form in 15/16, where he contributed an impressive nine goals, 13 assists, seven clean sheets and 25 bonus points, totalling 171 FPL points over the course of the campaign.
This season, though, West Ham’s dire form has led to the France international being a shadow of his former self, but he is still a player who can produce something out of nothing – his wonderful solo goal against Middlesbrough last month is evidence of that.
That remains Payet’s only Premier League goal of the season so far, but he has contributed five assists and seven bonus points, leaving him with a very good average of 5.2 FPL points per 90 minutes played.
West Ham’s form is bound to improve over the coming weeks, despite them having a few tough fixtures ahead, and expect Payet to be at the forefront of any change in fortunes for Bilic’s boys.
And finally, Crystal Palace’s Jason Puncheon is a player who is yet to really get going for Alan Pardew’s struggling Eagles, but he’s the sort of winger who can really kick-start a revival in form.
He didn’t have the best of seasons last term, totalling a meagre 87 FPL points after contributing just two goals, three assists and a single bonus point.
However, he already has three assists and four bonus points this season and Pardew will be calling on him to help turn around what has been a torrid 2016 for Palace. They have some favourable fixtures coming up, including trips to relegation rivals Swansea and Hull, and Puncheon will be best placed to start making more of an impact in those fixtures.
