da jogodeouro: According to Football.London, Arsenal have undertaken initial talks over a potential deal for Boca Juniors forward Cristian Pavon.
What’s the story?
As per the aforementioned report, the Gunners have held a long-standing interest in Pavon and are hoping to have a deal concluded for the attacker in the upcoming January transfer window.
The report further claims that the 22-year-old Pavon – who is thought to have a £44.5 million release clause in his current contract – has so far resisted a move to Europe as he first wishes to win the Copa Libertadores with Boca.
Playmaker FC’s Theo Ogden was at the Emirates to witness Arsenal’s qualification for the Europa League last 32. Check out his match diary in the video below…
With Boca now in the final of the Copa Libertadores though, Pavon could soon find himself ready to make his big move should his team prove triumphant.
If the 11-cap Argentina international does decide the time has come to seek pastures new, the Gunners must go all out to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.
The perfect Welbeck replacement
Following Danny Welbeck’s severe injury (TalkSport), recently sustained in a Europa League clash with Sporting, Unai Emery finds his squad short of versatile wide attackers. With Welbeck’s contract set to expire at the end of the season too, the England man’s injury has simply exacerbated the need for Arsenal to identify his replacement.
The arrival of Pavon in January would be a statement of intent from the Gunners, sending a message that they’re serious about returning to the top table of European football and competing for the Premier League title once again.
With the future in mind as well as the present, the talented Pavon would be a brilliant winter buy for Arsenal.
