Andy Gray believes Rangers “would be foolish” not to sell Alfredo Morelos if an offer of £15m+ arrives this summer.
What’s the word?
Speaking exclusively to The Daily Record, the former Gers striker said: “I’m not a fan of Morelos. He’s unreliable in big games. He’s not done enough against the likes of Celtic – he hasn’t even scored against them yet.
“So I’m not a big fan at all but I do understand Steven has got a guy here who scored more than 30 goals last season.
“If it was as simple as replacing him with another guy who will score 30 plus next season then I’d definitely get rid. If someone comes in for him with £15m then Rangers would be foolish not to sell him and try to use the money to bring in that replacement.
“Or, if you could tell me Jermain is going to be fit for the whole season, I would say, ‘Sell Morelos, get the money in and make the group better’.”
Gray went on to say that Morelos was not missed much during his end-of-season suspension last term, but does he have a point?

Should they sell?
In truth, it really depends on what the fee is when deciding if selling Morelos would be a good idea.
As Gray alludes to, the 23 year-old slammed in 30 goals last season, and has already grabbed one this year despite only playing 27 minutes of the campaign opener against St Joseph’s.
So losing the young hotshot would only be worth it if the money coming in was enough to find a suitable replacement, or improve the squad massively in other areas.
That said, the Daily Record’s report says both Crystal Palace and West Ham are interested in the Colombian, and one has to imagine selling him to the riches of the Premier League would ensure the Gers make a hefty profit.

Better without him?
Gray also highlighted the fact that Steven Gerrard’s side did not struggle without him, and he’s absolutely right – the Gers only lost one game in which he was suspended in 2018/19, the semi-final of the League Cup against Aberdeen.
In fact, the Gers won six league games in a row after he was sent off against Celtic and subsequently left out by the gaffer, conceding just once along the way. One of those wins was the Old Firm, a fixture the 23 year-old has yet to score in.
Morelos then returned for the season closer against Kilmarnock, playing 90 minutes in a 2-1 defeat.
So while it may hurt those Gers fans who simply love their feisty front man, selling him may not harm the success of the side anywhere near as much as you would expect when 30 goals walks out the door.
