da blaze casino: Mason Holgate has finally earned his way into the Everton side lately and he’s impressed with his performances this week. The injury to Yerry Mina prior to the Brighton & Hove Albion game forced the 23-year-old into the side, where he would register an assist for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Now, after his heroic displays against Watford and another injury scare to Mina, Holgate is proving to be of great importance to Marco Silva now.
Against the Hornets, the defender was vitally important in getting the Toffees into the next round of the Carabao Cup. His goal in the 73rd minute was his first for the club and this eased the pressure on the team and Silva during the tie.
Everton played with comfort and confidence after he headed home, which then helped Richarlison seal the result in injury time.
Not only did Holgate break the deadlock at Goodison Park, he also won six duels at the back and kept a clean sheet, as per SofaScore. Three of these duels were won in the air and the other three came in a confident display on the ground. Furthermore, his 8.1 rating was the highest on the pitch and he as officially handed the Man of the Match by Everton after the game.
Holgate also looked at home with his distribution in the League Cup fixture by making 72 passes in the tie at a 93% success rate. What makes this statistic all the more impressive is how Fabian Delph and Lucas Digne were second in the list of accurate passes with just 57.
Now, after another impressive display for the Blues, and with the potential injury to Mina again, circumstances dictate that Holgate surely deserves a starting role in the side.
He has proved that in a time of borderline crisis for the club, he can be a vital player for Silva.
