da esoccer bet: Atletico Madrid are currently not really flying high over in La Liga.
Diego Simeone’s men are lagging behind not just Barcelona and Real Madrid – two of the league leaders – but a couple of other surprising contenders who have managed to ride their waves of good form as of late.
The Rojiblancos, for all their quality, have failed to do so and could receive another big blow, this time in the form of a potential exit in the near future.
According to Mundo Deportivo’s recent report, Saul Niguez is on Manchester United’s radar as they are willing to splash the cash in case Paul Pogba decides to leave, which is now becoming increasingly likely.
The midfielder reportedly has a release clause of €150m (£129.5m) inserted in his contract and with the newfound funds of the Frenchman’s potential sale, the Red Devils could tempt Atletico’s main man in order to fill Pogba’s void.
But not all is lost because the Rojiblancos are also reportedly on the prowl for one of Man United’s own targets, Bruno Fernandes, as reported by O Jogo (via Express).
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men seem on the front foot in that race, as per the same source, but if they were to snatch Saul, Fernandes could represent a great alternative for Simeone’s squad.
With ten goals and 12 assists to his name across all competitions in 2019/20, the 25-year-old midfielder looks like an excellent option to bolster Atletico’s squad.
Of course, compensating for someone as important as Saul will be difficult. After all, the 25-year-old has been Atletico’s second-best player according to Whoscored with one goal alongiside 1.3 shots, 2.1 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game, proving that he’s a well-rounded utility man.
But Fernandes’ 3.4 shots and 3.8 key passes per game with decent defensive figures such as 2.3 tackles could indicate that he has the skillset to make Simeone forget all about his current star.
Unfortunately for them, United are very much in the same boat.
Losing Pogba would definitely take a toll on their squad but that could easily be softened with Fernandes’ signature as his figure even eclipse the Frenchman’s from last season.
His 3.6 shots and 3.2 key passes per game outperform Pogba’s three and 1.6 respectively, while his defending is also on par with his counterpart’s.
The Portuguese star has tallied 1.7 tackles and 0.4 interceptions per game compared to the Frenchman’s 1.3 and 0.5 per game.
Clearly, both clubs could indeed prosper by landing that signing but since Fernandes has recently signed a brand new contract that has pumped his release clause to £85m, it remains to be seen how that affects any business moving forward.
Elsewhere, Paris Saint-Germain would find a dream replacement for their star by landing Liverpool’s main man…
