da brwin:
da poker: Dave O’Connell has said that Liverpool’s interest in Timo Werner represents progression for the Reds.
What did he say?
The Anfield outfit have been linked with the RB Leipzig forward in recent weeks and months, with the latest now saying that a move to Merseyside is the 23-year-old’s preferred move – he is said to have a release clause of €60m (£51.1m).
Citing fans who say that he wouldn’t make a move to the club due to worries about a lack of game time, O’Connell believes that such fears in regards to arguably one of the best strikers in European football right now represents progression for Jurgen Klopp and co.
Huge improvement
O’Connell raises a very good point. Indeed, Werner is now one of the most sought-after players in European football – Real Madrid (Sky German via Get German Football News) and Barcelona (SPORT via The Daily Mirror) have both also been linked – and he has netted a huge 25 goals in 26 games so far this term in all competitions.
It was recently claimed that he didn’t want to make a move to the club due to concernsÂabout spending too much time out of the action – whether that report is true or not, it would not even be contemplated a few years ago.
If you look at the arrivals in the season before Jurgen Klopp joined (October 2015), the Reds signed Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren from Southampton – the Saints had finished eighth during the 2013/14 campaign – a controversial Mario Balotelli from AC Milan as well as Alberto Moreno from Sevilla. Divock Origi also joined, as did Lazar Markovic and Emre Can – that trio were promising youngsters rather than stars such as Werner.
This is just another example of the Reds’ rise since the 52-year-old moved to the club. Liverpool is now the place that many up-and-coming players want to move to, and it appears to be that they can finally compete for the best players on the planet as well.
A Premier League title win – which, now that they have a 16-point lead at the top of the table with a game in hand, looks inevitable – will only boost that.
What a time to be a Liverpool fan.
